One-on-One Language Evaluation

So you’ve made it to Level 2 on the inlingua placement test …these evaluations are designed for you!

First off, you will be evaluated to obtain a clear understanding of your language proficiency. As you progress through the program, you will be re-evaluated from time to time. These evaluations are will supplement your regular training and help us (and you) isolate your problem areas and work on clearing them up.

Pronunciation Evaluation

This is where we will ask you to read aloud and record several pages of the language. The content will vary from stories to conversations to articles, with varying degrees of difficulty and subject matter. From there, your trainer will assess your pronunciation and help you concentrate on problem areas such as individual vowel and consonant sounds, rhythm, stresses, intonation, word groupings and other elements that are key and natural to fluency.

Grammar Evaluation

Grammar is essential to being understood in conversational language. Your trainer will help you identify the areas of your grammar usage that need attention. At each session, you will be given homework in the form of summary pages in the language. At your next lesson, your trainer will discuss the results with you and indicate areas of grammar that need further study.

Self Evaluation

Your own confidence in the usage of the language is crucial to your conversational skills and mastery of the language. inlingua also believes in asking you to evaluate your own proficiency. You are given a list of questions and are asked to give your own honest opinion of your current skill level.

For example:
  • Do you feel at ease speaking with native French speakers in group conversations or discussions? (15% of the time)
  • Do you understand an American who speaks fast? (30% of the time)
  • Can you easily understand and fill out forms in Arabic? (90% of the time)
  • Can you describe with accuracy processes in your professional field in Japanese? (50% of the time)
  • Can you write reports in English? (70% of the time)
  • Do you think in German? (40% of the time)
