There’s a difference between “simultaneous” and “consecutive” interpretation methods. Let’s discuss:
Simultaneous Interpretations
The interpreter uses a soundproof booth and headsets to interpret what the speaker is saying as it is being said. The recipient wears a headset in order to receive the information from the interpreter. Simultaneous interpreting is often used in conferences, meetings, and seminars.
Consecutive Interpretations
The interpreter notes down what the speaker says. The speaker pauses periodically while the interpreter repeats the information in the target language to the recipient. No equipment is necessary. Consecutive interpreting is often used in court hearings, depositions, hospital appointments, telephone calls, interviews, and meetings.
