inlingua Austin: Welcome To Texas!

Texas is a place that’s unlike anywhere else in the United States. It’s got its own rich heritage and history, and the state’s sheer size makes it home to numerous types of terrain, climate and culture. It’s sometimes hard for people to grasp that there are counties in West Texas that are literally bigger than the state of Rhode Island (and may have only 12,000 people in the whole county!). Or that a drive from El Paso (in West Texas) to Orange (on the Texas/Louisiana line) may take 16 to 18 hours or more. Austin, on the other hand, has its own atmosphere that’s totally unlike anywhere else in the state. With so many attractions and so much to do, Austin’s vaunted ‘quality of life’ makes it a fast-growing city and a desirable place to do business and to live. There is so much going on, on about any given night of the week, that there’s something to attract any tastes or lifestyle. You can swim at Barton Springs Pool (spring-fed, with a year-round 68-degree temperature), have drinks, dinner and a movie at Alamo Drafthouse Cinema, see live music in the 6th Street entertainment district, or go to world-famous music festivals like South by Southwest or Austin City Limits Festival. For the outdoors-minded, there is so much to do within an hour’s drive of town, with Lake Travis, Lake Austin and too many camping/picnic areas to name. But inlingua knows that relocation can be a confusing, even intimidating experience. We offer a full range of services to help get a person’s (or family’s) feet on the ground after moving to Austin:

  • Cultural training (one day): Meant to familiarize a person with the ABC’s of living in the United States (and specifically in Texas). We’ll cover government, customs, behaviors and cultural norms of Americans, to ease the transition to a new country.
  • Moving-In Services (one day): A relocation consultant will help with arranging the deliveries and various necessities of getting settled into a new home.
  • Settling-In Services (one day): inlingua’s relocation consultant will assist with the next steps of getting acclimated, such as bank accounts, telephone/utility/Internet connections, school inoculations and enrollment, Texas driver’s license and all the other little things that can be so daunting on your own.
  • Area tour (one day): This is the most fun part! Your relocation consultant will take you around to show the major attractions and features of Austin and explain how the various transportation routes work. Lunch provided.
